A Quiet Moment. Fernand Toussaint (Belgian, 1873-1955). Oil on canvas.
Toussaint entered the Academy of Fine Arts where he studied under Jean Portaels. Toussaint formulated his own individual style, combining elegance and fine draughtsmanship with a free impressionistic handling of paint. The warm hues of his palette, as well as the sure delicacy of his touch assured the beauty of all his work. Art critic Mario de Marchi wrote “Toussaint is the undisputed master at capturing the grace and charm of women.”
