Brunner’s paintings appeared on the covers of The Saturday Evening Post, the Ladies Home Journal, This Week, and others. He also painted illustrations for advertisements for Coca Cola, Canada Dry Ginger Ale, Cliquot Beverage Company, and numerous other companies.
Brunner also supported the war effort with his artwork. He supplied the Red Cross with two posters and portrayed service men and women in his illustrations. His most famous portrait is that of his childhood friend, General Carl A. Spaatz.
