Costume for ‘Cléopâtre’ in the Ballets Russes production of ‘Cléopâtre’ (Cleopatra). Sonia Delaunay (French, 1885-1979). Paris, 1918.
Designed for ballerina Luba Tchernicheva. Delaunay used arcs, circles and spheres to the body and parallel lines and curves in the headdress. Delaunay and others cofounded the Orphism art movement, noted for its use of strong colours and geometric shapes.
